What is a fixed bridge?
Bridges are often used to replace one or more teeth. They fill the gap left by missing teeth. Bridges are attached to natural teeth or to implants located on either side of the gap. These teeth, called ” pillars “, serve as anchors for the bridges. A replacement tooth, the “pontic”, is held in place by the crowns covering the pillars. There are different types of dental bridge, and your dentist will recommend the one that’s best for you, depending on the location of the edentulous space and the condition of your teeth, mouth and gums.
Your dentist will recommend a bridge to:
Replace one or more missing teeth;
Stabilize your occlusion;
Promote healthy chewing and digestion;
Reduce the risk of infection and oral / periodontal disease;
Improve speech;
Enhance comfort;
Prevent tooth wear.
